JUMP FOR JAPAN EVENT

On April 29th AuPairCare will team up with the House of Bounce in Manassas Virginia providing a way for the community to assist in the efforts in Japan. This tragedy has touched all of our hearts and we are excited to raise money to help in the efforts. There will be four open bounce sessions throughout the day. The cost is $9.00 per person. The House of Bounce has been very generous in allowing $6.00 to go directly to the American Red Cross to assist in their hard work in Japan!!! When you arrive at the House of Bounce there will also be an option to purchase 2 slices of pizza and a drink for $5.00 as well! AuPairCare is thrilled to be involved in this event and for anyone who attends, we will be giving away coupons for a free application.....a $350 savings! Come to the House of Bounce on April 29th to support Japan and meet some amazing au pairs from around the world who will be there to support this cause as well! Invite all of your neighbors and friends!

Tragedy in Japan

On behalf of myself and AuPairCare, I want to send out my thoughts and prayers to Japan. There are many au pairs in our company from Japan and our thoughts and prayers are with your friends and family right now......

Below are a list of ways to help if you or anyone you know is interested.

***List of projects that need your help***

By now most of us have seen the heart-breaking photos and videos coming out of Japan and want to know what we can do to help. Below are some of the Organizations providing relief resources in Japan.

ADRA: Initial $25,000 of aid committed. Assessment team evaluating affected area and preparing broader response. Providing food and shelter for train passengers that are stranded in Tokyo.

AMERICAN RED CROSS: Gifts to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund will support their disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES Our partners are assessing the needs where the tsunami has caused extensive damage. CRS has programs in the Philippines and Indonesia and works with partners in numerous islands in the Pacific that might be affected. Central American countries where CRS works could also be in danger.

CONVOY OF HOPE: Disaster Response team established connection with in-country partners who have been impacted by the damage and are identifying the needs and areas where Convoy of Hope may be of the greatest assistance.

INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CORPS: Putting together relief teams, as well as supplies, and are in contact with partners in Japan and other affected countries to assess needs and coordinate our activities.

OXFAM USA: Oxfam is poised to respond if disaster strikes vulnerable countries in the tsunami’s path.

REAL MEDICINE FOUNDATION: RMF was founded in 2005 in response to the Asian Tsunami relief efforts. We’re working to see where our funding, resources and expertise will be most effective to those most affected in Japan.

SAVE THE CHILDREN: Mobilizing to provide immediate humanitarian relief in the shape of emergency health care and provision of non-food items and shelter.

SHELTERBOX: ShelterBox responds instantly to natural and man-made disasters by delivering boxes of aid to those who are most in need. The box includes a tent for a family of 10, cooker, blankets, water purification, tool kit and other items survivors need to rebuild their lives in the days, weeks and months following a disaster.

WORLD VISION: World Vision staff members are on high alert, preparing to respond.

Benefits of Learning a Foreign Language YOUNG!!!

Young children are uniquely suited to learning a second language. The developing brain is hard-wired to acquire language – never again will it be this natural or this easy!

Children Learn A Second Language Naturally

Exposing your child to a second language young allows a child to optimize his or her learning potential, helping to shape the brain at its most flexible stage. Young children are uniquely suited to learning a second language. Learning a second language at a young age is cognitively as easy as learning a first language.

Young children can acquire native-like fluency as easily as they learned to walk. Where adults have to work through an established first-language system, studying explicit grammar rules and practicing rote drills, the young kids learn naturally, absorbing the sounds, structures, intonation patterns and rules of a second language intuitively, as they did their mother tongue. The young brain is inherently flexible, uniquely hard-wired to acquire language naturally.

Window Of Opportunity:
Early childhood is the best time for language acquisition. Ease of learning a second language diminishes with age. Between birth and adolescence the brain is hard-wired to acquire language naturally. As a child approaches puberty, the nature of language learning and storage changes, becoming less flexible.

Young learners enrich their lives and open up doors to their future by gaining:

an expanded world view.
greater intercultural appreciation and sensitivity.
ability to learn additional languages more easily.
a competitive edge in future markets and
the global marketplace.

By hosting an au pair we are all providing our kids with this amazing opportunity!!!!

Snow Tubing in February was a BLAST!!

Thanks so much to those of you who attended our Snow Tubing event. I'm sorry we had to change the date, however we still had a blast! We had the place to ourselves and the sound of laughter I heard the entire time made me smile! We will definitly be back to Ski Liberty again next year! Because I had to change the date and many of you were not able to come, I hosted a second event....very low key...at Panera Bread on Sunday. It was so great to see so many faces and what a beautiful day it was to sit outside and enjoy the weather. I'm looking forward to next month!

March EVENT....Mark Your Calendars!!

As you all know, I try my best to make our monthly events fun. I want your time here to be an adventure and if I can help make that happen on my end, than I feel I am happy! A few months ago I asked you to vote between bowling, ice skating, and rock climbing. The votes poured in and rock climbing was the unanimous winner! I found an amazing place for our March event and they are even going to offer us a discount! We will meet on March 20 (Sunday) from 5-7:30 pm at sportrock in Sterling, VA. The cost is $20 and that includes the 1.5 hour session, equipment, etc. It is a terrific indoor rock climbing facility. Make sure to wear sneakers and dress in comfortable clothes.
